Sarvani Malla
No books, no homework for KG: the Vizag school behind Sarvani Malla's education award
School of Wonder Kids, a Pre-KG to Class 7 school in Visakhapatnam started in 2001, received an educational innovation award at the Pragathi Ratna Awards 2026. Sarvani Malla was named with the school.
Most schools in India sell the same promise: more books, more homework, more marks.
School of Wonder Kids in Visakhapatnam built its name on the opposite idea.
At the Pragathi Ratna Awards 2026, held in Hyderabad on October 25, 2026, the school received the Excellence in Educational Innovation Award. The name listed with the school was Sarvani Malla.
A School With a Different Rule Book
The school says it was established in 2001.
Its starting concept, in its own words, was "no books-no reading-no writing-no homework for KG classes & no loads of books and no homework from class 1 on wards".
That was a bold idea for parents who measure learning by the weight of a school bag.
The school calls its method "Edu-Easy". Its website says the method is backed by research at the Malla Bureau of Child Development.
It teaches children from Pre-KG up to Class 7.
A Family Institution
The school's website names Malla Ramunaidu as Director and Malla Vanisri as Principal.
The same website introduces their three children as "our inspiration". It describes the youngest, Sarvani, as a trained dancer recognised for Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and folk forms from a very young age.
Many schools in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are family-run. In such schools, the next generation often grows up inside the campus, at events, on stage and in the office, long before they take on any formal role.
Two Branches, One Idea
The school's website lists two branches in Visakhapatnam: one on Krishna College Road in Maddilapalem (the VIP Road branch) and one in Old Gajuwaka.
Running a school across two parts of a city means two sets of parents, teachers, timetables and transport routes, all expected to deliver the same experience.
What Running a School Really Involves
From outside, a school looks like classrooms and teachers.
From inside, it is also a business.
Admissions have to be filled every year.
Teachers have to be hired, trained and kept.
Fees must cover salaries, buildings, buses and maintenance.
And parents have to be convinced, again and again, that the school's method works.
For a school that says "no homework", that last job is the hardest. Every parent who joins is trusting an idea that is different from how they themselves were taught.
Lesson for Students
You do not need to be a teacher to build a career in education.
Schools need people for admissions, accounts, administration, transport, events, design, social media and parent communication.
If you are a B.Ed or D.Ed student, look beyond government posts. Private and family-run schools in Tier-2 cities like Vizag hire every year.
If you are a commerce or management student, school administration is a real career path, and a good place to learn how a small institution runs.
And if you ever start something of your own, remember this school's lesson:
A clear, different idea is easier to remember than a long list of features.
Pick one idea. Explain it simply. Stand by it for years.
